Introduction

This Data Protection Policy sets out how Upper Ruxley Cattery uses and protects any information that you give Upper Ruxley Cattery when you make an enquiry about boarding your cat with us in person or by telephone, make enquiries about employment or volunteering or use our website, sub-domains, other related domains and our business social media sites.

Upper Ruxley Cattery is the data controller for the purpose of this policy.

Upper Ruxley Cattery is committed to ensuring that your privacy is protected. Should we ask you to provide certain information by which you can be identified, then you can be assured that it will only be used in accordance with this policy. The provision of your personal data to us is voluntary. We may obtain your personal data when you provide it to us (e.g., where you contact us via email or telephone, or by any other means, or when you provide us with your business card). However, without providing us with your personal data, you will be unable to make a cattery boarding booking or any of our related optional services, subscribing to our Newsletter, or purchase items via our online shop, apply for employment with us or apply to volunteer with us.

Upper Ruxley Cattery may change this policy from time to time by updating this page. Although most changes are likely to be minor you should check this page from time to time to ensure that you are happy with any changes. This policy is effective from 26th April 2018.

1.    What we collect

We may collect the following information:

  • contact information including email address and mailing address
  • demographic information such as postcode, preferences and interests
  • other information relevant to customer surveys and/or offers

Responses to Email Enquiries. When Visitors or Customers send email enquiries to Upper Ruxley Cattery, the return email address is used to answer the email enquiry we receive. The business does not use the return email address for any other purpose and does not share the return email address with any third party.

We require this information to understand your needs and provide you with a better service, and in particular for the following reasons:

6.    Our third-party Data Processors

The third-parties we use are PayPal, WordPress, Revelation Pets and Google Analytics and all comply with relevant legislation to process personal data on our behalf. For the avoidance of doubt, our third-party Data Processors and Upper Ruxley Cattery each have their own, independently determined privacy policies, notices and procedures for the personal data they hold and are each a data controller (and not joint data controllers).

Our third-party Data Processors and Upper Ruxley Cattery shall not knowingly do anything or permit anything to be done which might lead to a breach by the other party of the Data Protection Laws.

PayPal process payments for any products purchased through our website. Neither us or PayPal retain any financial information you may submit as part of the purchasing process. PayPal monitor every transaction, 24/7 to prevent fraud, email phishing and identity theft. Every transaction is heavily guarded behind PayPal’s advanced encryption. If something appears suspicious, their dedicated team of security specialists will identify suspicious activity and help protect you from fraudulent transactions.

SSL (Secure Socket Layer) is a security technology which guarantees that your personal data, including credit and debit card information, login data and payment method, are securely transferred via the Internet. WordPress provide the Customer Engagement platform we use to manage and fulfil your purchase orders. No personal financial information is ever taken or stored in this system as during the process, everything is transferred out to PayPal so that neither us or WordPress has access to your financial information.

We collect information about visitors who comment on Sites that use our Akismet anti-spam service. The information we collect depends on how the User sets up Akismet for the Site, but typically includes the commentary’s IP address, user agent, referrer, and Site URL (along with other information directly provided by the commenter such as their name, username, email address, and the comment itself).

Revelation Pets provide the cattery booking software management system. No personal financial information is ever taken or stored in this secure system.

Google Analytics use cookies in order to evaluate your use of our website and compile reports for users activity on our website. 7.    Controlling your personal information

You may choose to restrict the collection or use of your personal information in the following ways:

  • if you have previously agreed to us using your personal information for direct marketing purposes, you may change your mind at any time by writing to or emailing us on the General Enquires contact form on our Contact Us page.
  • we will not share, sell, distribute or lease your personal information to third parties unless we have your permission or are required by law. We may use your personal information to send you promotional information about third parties which we think you may find interesting if you tell us that you wish this to happen.

It is your responsibility to keep your personal information secure, by maintaining the confidentiality at all times of any accounts, password and PIN details used on our website.

8.    Business Transfers

In connection with any merger, sale of the business assets, or acquisition of all or a portion of our business by another company, business or person, or in the unlikely event that Upper Ruxley Cattery goes out of business or enters bankruptcy. Website visitors and customer information would likely be one of the assets that is transferred or acquired by a third party. If any of these events were to happen, this Privacy Policy would continue to apply to Website visitors and customer information and the party receiving this information may continue to use this information, but only consistent with this Privacy Policy.

In the event that the business is sold or integrated with another business, your details may be disclosed to our advisers and any prospective purchaser’s adviser and will be passed to the new owners of the business.

9.    Period of time the personal data will be stored

The criteria used to determine the period of storage of personal data is the respective legal statutory retention period. After expiration of that period, the corresponding data is deleted, so long as it is no longer necessary for the fulfilment of the contract or the initiation of a future contract.
